What to Expect

Greeting & Announcements

Wise Men bringing gifts from far, far away is more than just a final chapter added on to Christmas story. Can we learn from them about our gifts and offerings? Their greatest gift was worship. The gifts they brought showed they recognized that Jesus was King, God, and Savior. Does your gift reflect your worship?

Invitation to Worship

Alabaster Heart

So here it is my alabaster heart
I’m keeping nothing back from who You are
No hidden treasure veiled by key or lock
You’re a lifetime worth of worship
And that’s only just the start

Here it is my every waking day
The minutes hours the years of endless praise
For You’re worthy far beyond all I could say
There’s a lifetime worth of worship
In the nuance of Your names

So let it rise like incense
My whole life a fragrance
Every ounce here broken at Your feet
Every breath an offering
My heart cries
These lungs sing over You
My worthy King of Kings

There it is Your alabaster cross
Giving all You are for all I’m not
I can’t believe that’s the kind of King You are
How could I not bring a lifetime
Worth of worship to You God

So let it rise like incense
My whole life a fragrance
Every ounce here broken at Your feet
Every breath an offering
My heart cries
These lungs sing over You
My worthy King of Kings

All my love
All my love
All my love
You can have it all

All my heart and
All my soul
All I own
You can have it all

All my love
All my love
All my love
You can have it all

All my heart and
All my soul
All I own
You can have it all

All my love
All my love
All my love
You can have it all

All my heart and
All my soul
All I own
You can have it all

All my heart and
All my soul
All I own
You can have it all

You can have it all
You can have it all
You can have it all
You can have it all

Scripture Reading

Acts 17:24-27 (NIV) - "The God who made the world and everything in it is the Lord of heaven and earth and does not live in temples built by hands. And he is not served by human hands, as if he needed anything. Rather, he himself gives everyone life and breath and everything else. From one man he made all the nations, that they should inhabit the whole earth; and he marked out their appointed times in history and the boundaries of their lands. God did this so that they would seek him and perhaps reach out for him and find him, though he is not far from any one of us.

Nicene Creed

I believe in one God, the Father Almighty, maker of heaven and earth and of all things visible and invisible.

And in one Lord Jesus Christ, the only-begotten Son of God, begotten of His Father before all worlds, God of God, Light of Light, very God of very God, begotten, not made, being of one substance with the Father, by whom all things were made; who for us men and for our salvation came down from heaven and was incarnate by the Holy Spirit of the virgin Mary and was made man; and was crucified also for us under Pontius Pilate. He suffered and was buried. And the third day He rose again according to the Scriptures and ascended into heaven and sits at the right hand of the Father. And He will come again with glory to judge both the living and the dead, whose kingdom will have no end.

And I believe in the Holy Spirit, the Lord and giver of life, who proceeds from the Father and the Son, who with the Father and the Son together is worshiped and glorified, who spoke by the prophets. And I believe in one holy Christian and apostolic Church, I acknowledge one Baptism for the remission of sins, and I look for the resurrection of the dead and the life of the world to come. Amen.

STP KIDS Dismissal

STP KIDS is the Children’s Ministry at St. Peter’s Edina, designed for all children from 6 months to 10 years old (Grade 5). Older children are welcome to participate as helpers. Our vision is to partner with parents in raising up a generation of children that will seek their God-given Kingdom mission and impact their world for Jesus!

This Week's Family Resources

Message

Matthew 2:1-2 (TLB) - Jesus was born in the town of Bethlehem, in Judea, during the reign of King Herod. At about that time some astrologers from eastern lands arrived in Jerusalem, asking, “Where is the newborn King of the Jews? for we have seen his star in far-off eastern lands and have come to worship him.”

Matthew 2:9-11 (TLB) - After this interview the astrologers started out again. And look! The star appeared to them again, standing over Bethlehem. Their joy knew no bounds! Entering the house where the baby and Mary, his mother, were, they threw themselves down before him, worshiping.

“Thank you for faithfully leading, serving, and stewarding the resources God has placed in your care. Your leadership creates space for lives to be transformed and the Gospel to be shared—this season and all year long.”

“Thank you for preaching the Gospel and for your service. Praying that we grow deeper in the Love of God this Christmas. ‘For unto us a Child is Born, a Son is Given…’”

“Who was the most generous person who ever lived?”
“In my mind, that makes Jesus the most generous person who ever lived.”

Romans 12:1 (NIV) - “Therefore, I urge you brothers and sisters, in view of God’s mercy, to offer your bodies as a living sacrifice, holy and pleasing to God—this is true and proper worship.”

Mission Moment

Prayers

If you are in need of prayer, we would love the opportunity to pray with you! You can post a prayer on our online prayer wall, or submit a private prayer to our prayer team.

Submit Prayer

Confession & Forgiveness

Pastor: When the Magi came seeking the newborn King, they came to worship Him.
All: We should fear and love God so that we do not despise preaching and His Word, but hold it sacred and gladly hear and learn it.

Pastor: When the Wise Men came, they followed a star that had been placed in the heavens by God in order to find Jesus. In these latter days, God places His Word and Sacraments before us, that we too might know Jesus, by the power of His Holy Spirit.

All: Lord, my worship has faltered. Forgive, restore, and strengthen me that I may glorify You with all my heart, soul, mind, and strength.

Pastor: Christ entered this world as your Savior. On the cross, Jesus offered Himself so we might receive forgiveness, freedom, and eternal life. Come, let us worship Him.

The Lord’s Prayer

All: Our Father who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name. Thy kingdom come. Thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread, and forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive those who trespass against us, and lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. For thine is the kingdom and the power, and the glory, forever and ever. Amen.

Communion

The Lutheran Church – Missouri Synod holds the Biblical teaching that in Communion we receive the true body and blood of Jesus Christ with the bread and wine for the forgiveness of sins. If you are a baptized Christian who has been instructed in the Biblical teaching of the real presence of the Christ in this meal and grace through faith in Christ, and if you agree with our confession of faith, please join with the fellowship of disciples in Holy Communion.

“Everyone ought to examine themselves before they eat of the bread and drink from the cup.  For those who eat and drink without discerning the body of Christ eat and drink judgment on themselves.” (1 Corinthians 11:28-29)

Blessing

Matthew 2:10-11 (TLB) - Their joy knew no bounds!  Entering the house where the baby and Mary, his mother, were, they threw themselves down before him, worshiping. Then they opened their presents and gave him gold, frankincense, and myrrh.

How Great Is Our God

The splendor of the King
Clothed in majesty
Let all the earth rejoice
All the earth rejoice
He wraps Himself in light
And darkness tries to hide
And trembles at His voice
And trembles at His voice

How great is our God
Sing with me
How great is our God
And all will see how great
How great is our God

And age to age He stands
And time is in His hands
Beginning and the End
Beginning and the End
The Godhead three in one
Father Spirit Son
The Lion and the Lamb
The Lion and the Lamb

How great is our God
Sing with me
How great is our God
And all will see how great
How great is our God

Name above all names
Worthy of all praise
My heart will sing
How great is our God
Name above all names
Worthy of all praise
My heart will sing
How great is our God

How great is our God
Sing with me
How great is our God
And all will see how great
How great is our God

How great is our God
Sing with me
How great is our God
And all will see how great
How great is our God
